How to Get Back to Dance Class.

Updated: Dec 12, 2023

Hello lovely people !

Well, now that the pandemic is almost over (hopefully), many of us, both experienced and beginner dancers are feeling a bit out of it. Many of us had some kind of routine before the pandemic. That routine was disrupted by the lockdowns and now we are not quite sure how to get back to the way things were.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am here to help you get back on track, no worries! Like many things in life, dance requires motivation. However, we sometimes ask ourselves: "why do I even need to go back to class? Do I even need this anymore?". Yes, you do. If you are thinking about it, you probably do. Dance helps you stay focused and gives you an intense level of physical and environmental awareness. Dance keeps you mentally and physically healthy and lets face it, dance is the coolest thing ever.

In order to gather the motivation to get back to class, you have to remember why you started dancing. You have to continue to remind yourself of the reason why you started. You have to do that everyday until going to class becomes a habit once again. In order to start dancing again, you just have to get out of the house and take that class. I promise, you'll feel so much better afterwards and you'll be happy you went. I know this is all easier said than done so let me break it down some more.

STEPS TO TAKE IN ORDER TO GET YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE AND INTO THAT DANCE CLASS

At the end of the weekend (Sunday evening), ,make a "to do" list. If your class is on Wednesday evening, the first thing on your list would be:

  1. Do 20 jumping jacks after work on Wednesday to get those juices flowing.

  2. Put on loose clothing and comfortable shoes.

  3. Have a snack (something with healthy sugar content like a fruit).

  4. Walk out the door.

  5. Board the bus or car and go.

  6. Walk into the dance studio.

  7. Sign into your class.

  8. Take your class.

Every time you cross out something on this check list, be sure to give yourself a pat on the back. This might all seem silly but it's really the little things that matter. Writing things down helps you keep track of your progress and turns the mountain task of going to a class into a pebble task (yes, I just made that up).

You can do this folks. Dance is a physical activity that takes effort, patience and determination but the rewards are always bountiful and it is always worth it in the end. Please feel free to share your thoughts and don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions. #Omachoreography #HipHopDanceClass #AfroDanceClass #GetBackToDance
